Partial calcanectomy and Ilizarov external fixation may reduce amputation need in severe diabetic calcaneal ulcers.
Abstract: Objective: The treatment of diabetic hindfoot ulcers is a challenging problem. In addition to serial surgical debridements, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and local wound care play important roles in the surgeon's armamentarium, for both superficial infection and...
A Practical Approach to the Management of Radiation-Induced Hemorrhagic Cystitis.
Abstract: Radiation-induced hemorrhagic cystitis (HC) is a complication of pelvic radiotherapy, mainly for prostate and uterine cancers. In the acute phase, patients feel urinary urgency and bladder pain. This phase is reversible after radiotherapy. In the chronic...

Integrative Approaches to Caring for Children with Autism.
Parents commonly integrate complementary and alternative medical (CAM) treatments for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) with conventional care. The aims of this article are to (1) describe the most commonly used treatments, (2) assess their efficacy and safety, and (3) organize the information in practical format for practitioners. We organized treatment modalities into four categories: recommended, monitored, tolerated, and therapies that should be avoided. These four categories are based on a two by two table weighing a therapy׳s effectiveness and safety. To meet the threshold for “recommended,” its effectiveness needed to be supported by two or more randomized, controlled trials. In addition to promoting an overall healthy lifestyle via nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress management, social support, and avoiding neurotoxins (healthy habits in a healthy habitat),
Inflammatory Bowel Disease: An Overview of Immune Mechanisms and Biological Treatments
Abstract Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are characterized by chronic inflammation of the intestinal tract associated with an imbalance of the intestinal microbiota. Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) are the most widely known types of IBD and have...
Temporal changes in tumor oxygenation and perfusion upon normo- and hyperbaric inspiratory hyperoxia.
Abstract: Inspiratory hyperoxia under hyperbaric conditions has been shown to effectively reduce tumor hypoxia and to improve radiosensitivity. However, applying irradiation (RT) under hyperbaric conditions is technically difficult in the clinical setting since RT...
[Clinical analysis of sudden deafness after radiotherapy and chemotherapy in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients].
Abstract: To investigate the clinical features and therapeutic effects of sudden deafness after radiotherapy combined with chemotherapy in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients. Clinical data of 42 nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients suffered from sudden deafness after...
Clinical presentation and microorganisms sensitivity profile for diabetic foot ulcers: a pilot study.
Abstract: Patients suffering from diabetes mellitus (DM) frequently present with infected diabetic foot ulcers (DFU). This study was done to record the anatomical site and the grade of ulcers according to Wagner's classification and to culture the microorganisms from...
The effect of different application timings of hyperbaric oxygen treatment on nerve regeneration in rats.
Abstract: The aim of the study was to determine the effect of different application timings of hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBO) on nerve regeneration in rats. A total of forty 12-week-old female Wistar albino rats were used. The sciatic nerve was transected. The...
