Corona virus and HBOT

South Korea states that oxygen therapy has been assisting with the recovery of a critically ill COVID-19 patient – COVID-19 is the new strain of the coronavirus, which has caused the 2020 worldwide pandemic. Jeong Eun-kyeong, director of Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, explains that oxygen therapy raises the patient’s degree of oxygen saturation by delivering high concentrations of oxygen.

“The patient’s symptoms have been improving after oxygen was administered using a face mask”

Malcom Hooper, Executive Directer of Hyperbaric Medicine International, responds to South Korea’s claims that HBOT (hyperbaric oxygen treatment) was successful in aiding in a COVID-19 recovery by writing, “Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is effective in treating the cascading challenges associated with the coronavirus immune response”.  In this article Hooper continues to state, “With any infection, the body’s immune system responds by attacking the foreign virus or bacteria. While this immune response can rid the body of the infection, it can also sometimes cause collateral damage in the body termed a “cytokine storm”. The immune cells produce cytokines to fight infection, but if too many are released, it can cause chronic autoimmune problems in the body. People most vulnerable to COVID-19 are individuals with pre-existing health challenges associated with chronic cytokine storm syndrome.”
