Colin’s HBOT Experience

A Journey of Progress with HBOT and Neurofeedback

“Since we started doing both HBOT and Neurofeedback, he doesn’t cry anymore in therapy. His focus, his attention, it’s easier for him to follow directions.

Colin Merzke was diagnosed with cerebral palsy due to hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), a condition caused by oxygen deprivation at birth. Born at Womack Army Medical Center, Colin was in fetal distress for four hours before being life-flighted to UNC for treatment, which included 72 hours of cooling. Despite the severity of his condition, Colin has shown remarkable progress that exceeded medical expectations.

Motor Skills and Strength

One of Colin’s most significant gains has been in movement and strength. His head and trunk control have improved to the point where he can now sit in his wheelchair without needing a harness for support. Additionally, he recently walked independently in his gait trainer from his classroom to the library, an achievement that showcases his growing strength and coordination.

Focus and Attention

Since starting HBOT and Neurofeedback, Colin’s ability to focus and follow directions has improved dramatically. He no longer becomes frustrated during therapy sessions, enabling him to participate fully and make steady progress.
