John’s HBOT Experience

Reclaiming Life through Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy after Traumatic Brain Injury

“I saw improvement probably within a dive or two, I would say almost immediately… I can see myself talking better and seeing visually better.”

John Sandidge suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI) two years ago after falling 40-50 feet from a ladder while attempting to trim tree limbs. This accident drastically impacted his ability to perform everyday tasks, leading him to seek Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) to aid in his recovery.

Motor Skills and Daily Functioning

HBOT enabled John to regain skills needed for daily tasks. He can now tie his shoes, put on deodorant, and take his pills without assistance, demonstrating a substantial improvement in coordination and fine motor skills.

Speech and Cognitive Clarity

John reported an improvement in his speech, noting that he can communicate more clearly, which friends have also observed. This increase in cognitive function and verbal clarity has been essential for his reintegration into everyday life.

Emotional and Psychological Support

The support and camaraderie from Extivita’s staff have been instrumental in John’s recovery. Their understanding and empathy have contributed positively to his overall experience, making his rehabilitation process feel more supported and hopeful.

Mobility and Pain Relief

John’s mobility improved with HBOT, allowing him to walk with more stability. Though he humorously describes his gait as “walking like Frankenstein,” he notes that it no longer causes him as much pain, a significant shift from his pre-treatment condition.
